Getting organised - a progress report
A couple of weeks ago I told you that I was trying to get a bit more organized in my planning, my teaching, my life in general! I thought I’d just share with you how I’ve been getting on.
Well, I had some fantastic tips from some lovely people on Facebook and I’m pleased to say that I’ve taken most of them on board and found the time to implement them.
I spent bank holiday Monday reorganizing my workspace, throwing a lot of old French resources and worksheets out and sorting out the ones that I know that I could use again and again. I found some great ones that I haven’t used in ages. Bonus!
How to store those useful resources though?
I wanted to get rid of a filing cabinet that had been full of old worksheets & useful (?) cards - so where to put them?
A lovely lady on Facebook told me about an over the door shoe tidy that she uses, so I got on a well-know e-commerce site, ordered them and started sorting out. I also ordered some pretty coloured envelopes because I wanted to avoid using plastic pockets where possible.
I then set about the job of classifying my super useful cards & putting them into the envelopes and then into a pocket on the overdoor hanger.
And it was really satisfying to see this happening.
It wasn’t straightforward, I did have to compromise a bit sometimes. I had to double up subjects in some pockets. There are only 24 pockets after all!
I listened to a super useful audio book while I was doing it (I’m listening to Atomic Habits by James Clear at the moment) – it took me a good few hours but at the end I had discovered stuff that I’d used pre-lockdown and then totally forgotten about.
Now I can find them and use them in my classes.
How fab is that!!
I also realized that this has helped me get clarity in other parts of my life. I feel lighter and more focused.
As a French teacher and a small business owner there are a lot of balls to juggle. This process has certainly been useful. I’ve kept the office tidy for nearly a week now – how long will it last?
I’m going to try to keep it going for as long as I can!
What are your ways to get organised and focussed on what you have to do?
